Is S3 suitable for block storage?

No. S3 is not for suitable for block storage. Because it is an object storage service designed for massive scalability, durability and cost effective storage of unstructured data (files, backups, media ) via HTTP APIs.it can not be mounted directly as a file system or used as raw hard drive by an operating system.
